Farewell, Lucy is the seventeenth and second-to-last story arc in the Elfen Lied manga series. It encompasses the events from Chapters one-hundred-two through one-hundred-six.

Synopsis[]

Enraged that Kouta will soon succumb to his wounds, Lucy increases her powers tenfold until, the storm she creates is set to consume Kamakura and, in short order, the world. Although, as she is about to unleash her wrath, as warned, her body becomes overwhelmed, and she slowly starts to melt away. Gaining the idea to use her abilities to heal Kouta instead, she turns back all manner of attack as she does and even sings the song, "Elfenlied," as Nozomi taught her. Their friends and family from the Maple House can get through, as does a strike force from the First Escort Fleet. Kouta wakes up and is now completely healed (though still in need of recovery time) but sees the melted ruins that Lucy/Nyu's body has become. He is compelled by Lucy/Nyu to kill her as he promised during their childhood, although he is highly reluctant to kill the one he still cares for. They also vow and promised for him to wait for her every year on the anniversary of the day they met. As the spirits of Lucy and Nyu depart, the operative arrives at the head of an armed force, only for them all to end up shredded by the power of the DNA Voice, now left alone inside the ruined body driven by the purest hatred. But even it can't bear to suffer any more pain, and, touched by Kouta's refusal to kill his old childhood friend, it makes a heartbreaking request to die. In front of Nana, Yuka, Mayu, Nozomi and Wanta, a tearful Kouta fires the gun handed to him and kills Lucy/Nyu's body.
